Redeeming the Tithe (Kymmenysten lunastus)

  • We are God’s covenant people
  • Tithe is holy unto the Lord

“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord. [I Cor. 9:11; Gal. 6:6.] And if a man wants to redeem any of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. And all the tithe of the herd or of the flock, whatever passes under the herdsman’s staff [by means of which each tenth animal as it passes through a small door is selected and marked], the tenth shall be holy to the Lord. [II Cor. 9:7-9.] The man shall not examine whether the animal is good or bad nor shall he exchange it. If he does exchange it, then both it and the animal substituted for it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites. [Rom. 10:4; Heb. 4:2; 12:18-29.]”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭27‬:‭30‬-‭34‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

‭‭3. Mooseksen kirja‬ ‭27‬:‭30‬-‭34‬ ‭FINRK‬‬

1) Children of Israel were required to bring all the tithes of all the increase.
2) 1/10 of the income to the Lord, regardless of what they did for living.
3) That tithe is holy – holy to the Lord. It does not belong to us, but it is holy to the Lord. We bring it to the Lord. It’s not something we give, as it already belongs to the Lord. We don’t have to think about it monthly.
4) Bringing the tithe to the Lord is an act of obedience and submission to Him.
5) People have a tendency to argue about the tithe and come up with reasons why not to do it. Refusing to tithe for a mature believer is an act of rebellion. Tithe does not belong to you, but to the Lord. You don’t give it, you bring it, or pay it.
6) Make a choice to honor God with all of your heart with your tithe – and watch the blessing of God on your life. Say no to every lie of the enemy, and decide to obey the word of God. Obedience connects you with God’s blessing and His protection.
7) Way is shown here in Leviticus to redeem the tithe for Israel – if they had missed their tithe, they are instructed to add 20% (or fifth) to it when they bring it. This way they could redeem the tithe.
8) So many Finnish believers have made their own rules, and come short of what the plan of God is. Millions of euros that could be released to the work of God this month is not brought to the local churches. Think about what could be done with those resources? Billions of euros just in Finland have been missed from the work of the gospel, due to disobedience of people in the church. Many believers will only find out about this reality when they face the Lord on the judgement seat of Christ. Tithe is holy to the Lord.
9) How committed are you to the Lord? Are you dedicated to God in your finances? Tax % is much higher. You pay 24% just in VAT in most purchases. Lot of loans you pay more than 10%. Everything comes from God – why would you not bring Him the tithe?
10) Make a choice today, if it applies to you, to repent from withholding the tithe – and as the Holy Spirit leads you, redeem the time you’ve missed. And keep tithing until you see Jesus face to face!

Prayer:
Lord, You have promised to bless and provide for me, and to rebuke the devourer on my behalf as I commit my tithe to You. From this day, until the day I see You face-to-face, I will honor You with my tithe – with one tenth of all my income.
