And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. (Luke 24:49)

The Glory of the Lord fills the house
When Solomon finished his prayer in 2 Chronicles 7, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering, and the glory of the Lord filled the house. The priests could not even enter as the glory took residence in the Lord’s house.

In Hosea 12:10 the Bible reveals that God speaks using similitudes — pictures and patterns. In the same way, we often talk about types in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the New Testament.
As the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord in the time of Solomon, it revealed the will of God for us in the age in which we are living. In 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 the believer’s body is called the temple of the Holy Spirit. In a similar way, in 2 Corinthians 6:16, the church is described as the temple of the living God.
The believer is redeemed, made new, and born of God by the blood of Jesus Christ. It’s the cross of Jesus Christ that made a way for the Holy Spirit to come and dwell on the inside of us.
God’s design is that every believer is filled with His Holy Spirit, completely surrendered to Him.
Absolute necessity of the Spirit of God
Finnish revivalist and evangelist Niilo Yli-Vainio said:
If you now want to be filled with the Holy Spirit and become of greater use to your Master and to your neighbors, you must face your insufficiency and realize that you need the power of the Holy Spirit. If you do not see that you need anything, then it is of course clear that you will not begin to do anything to be filled with this wonderful power either.
You must understand that if Jesus could not work without the baptism of the Spirit, then neither can you. And if the apostles could not work without it, then neither can you. And if the very first Christians, who lived in the earliest days of the new church, could not manage in their ministry without the baptism of the Spirit, then neither can you.
Spirit and Power
What happened in Acts chapter two was a monumental event that brought power to the church. The Spirit of God came and filled each one in the upper room, and He brought the power of heaven with Him!
Power to shake nations, destroy the power of the enemy, remove sickness and disease, and deliver what heaven has, on the earth — both wisdom and might.
Apostle Paul was passionate about demonstrating that our faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (1 Cor. 2:1–5). Jesus revealed that we should know both the scriptures, and the power of God (Mat. 22:29).
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. (Acts 4:33)
Receiving the Promise of the Father
The Power of Pentecost is for every believer. God’s promises are received by faith. If your heart’s desire is to receive a genuine touch of God, and to be filled full with the Holy Spirit — following these scriptural steps will help you receive from God:
- Deep repentance of the heart and desire to remove from your life anything that’s not pleasing to your heavenly Father (Acts 2:38–39).
- Deep hunger for God (Matt. 5:6, James 4:8). Your affection, interest and priorities change with spiritual hunger. The Holy Spirit becomes your only desire.

It’s not up to God
God moved sovereignly in the first century as the Holy Spirit came. He has never left. We are the ones who must get hungry and thirsty, and honor Him. Make room for Him, and yield to Him. This is the time of the Holy Spirit!
Power for now
The Power of Pentecost is for now, and it’s for you. God’s promise for you is to be “endued with power from on high”!
