then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (Leviticus 26:4)

Foundational scriptures: Leviticus 26:1–13

Pathway into abundance

In Leviticus 26 God instructs the children of Israel how to enter into the blessing that He planned for them. God’s plan was increase, peace, victory, fruitfulness, and multiplication. He wanted His people to step into abundance, and as the highlight He Himself would be their reward: “I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.” (Lev. 26:12).

God’s sure promise is that He will establish His people, cause them to be fruitful, and to multiply in the land. “The Land Shall Yield Her Increase.” God’s covenant purpose was increase.

Farming in the ancient world

Working the land in the time of Moses took knowledge, skill and patience. Understanding of seasons and the rain schedule, different soils, working with animals to assist in the work, and knowledge of each part of the harvest: planting, tending, gathering and threshing.

Once the rain came on the land all the work would be rewarded with increase. Skill, understanding and diligence were necessary to benefit from the blessing. The blessing was not money raining from the sky, but God’s grace that brought the harvest in abundance.

Walking after the Spirit

For the church Apostle Paul writes to “walk in the Spirit” (Gal. 5:25). Israel is instructed to “walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them” (Lev. 26:3).

As we line up our lives with God’s instructions, His word, we qualify for the promises. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus concluded His message by saying that if we both hear, and do what He says, we’d be a wise builder who builds on the rock (Mat. 7:24).

Honoring God from your increase

As the harvest comes in, we are to honor God from the first and the best of our increase. In Genesis 8 Noah’s offering after the flood was a “sweet savour to the Lord”. Israel’s burnt sacrifice offerings in the time of Moses are described the same way. In Exodus 25 people were given directions to bring an offering willingly.

In Philippians 4:18 the offering given to the work of the ministry that Apostle Paul was doing was described as “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God”.

As we honor God with our best, from a willing heart full of gratitude, it comes before Him as a fragrant and wellpleasing offering.

Your place of worship

As I came back to Finland after my time of preparation, which took about 10 years, I gratefully recognized what a blessing it is to have a church that you can call home. A place of vision, prayer, power, word and unity. A place where you are among your own kind, serve with all your heart, and a place where you can bring your offerings to the Lord.

Your offering connects you to heaven’s economy.

Dealing with hindrances

Cultivate and grow that which is good. Walk in God’s ways, His ways of doing things, His word. Have a heart for the lost and the kingdom of God. Become an expert in your field — whatever area you are working in, or operating in as a business owner. Honor God and recognize Him as you see increase.

Don’t tolerate sin in your life, strange, unbalanced doctrines, bad attitudes, laziness, critical and negative mindsets. Watch your mouth (Prov. 18:21). Don’t associate with people who influence you in a bad way.

What’s your response?

Someone is going to be the best in the industry you’re in, so why can’t it be you? Put your hands to work in the area God has for you, and see what happens when the rain of heaven comes.

The land shall yield her increase!
